STILL LIFE

Idea!

If you associate yourself to the creative community you will know what I mean. From times memorable, the word ‘Idea’ has been illustrated with a big, bright, lighted bulb and a happy smile on the face of the person below it. Makes me wonder – who got the bright idea?

I suspect it could be a poor cousin of Archemedes perhaps, who had the thought in the middle of the night, when he couldn’t think in the dark. This must have prompted him to jump around in his bed screaming ‘Eureka Eureka’ at 2 am in the morning. His perturbed wife may have hit him hard on the head and he probably visualised the bulb along with a few stars moving around in an anti-clockwise direction. We cannot presume that he drew his thought there-and-then, but we would like to assume that he would require sufficient time, to recover from the aftershock. His vision may be recorded for posterity, but you might not find the evidence in history books, as it is just an idea!

They say the creative bug can strike anywhere. Little wonder then, that some thinkers will go to any lengths to conceive a thought. You will see a section of this tribe talking with themselves and gesturing around mindlessly as they walk in subways and enter the wrong train. The more sober among them can be spotted at pubs, gazing into space and smiling to themselves as they sip their brew. You may find a few of them at their workstations, biting their pens as they write with a carrot.

Creativity has a fetish for the abnormal. A lot of creative people don’t like thinking on their toes. They also find it too formal to think at their desktops, with or without a cigarette for relief. Some of them however, find the comfort of the toilet seat much more convenient. The ‘creative’ being the excited people that they are; explains why you sometimes find toilet paper piled all over the floor. It is just that they will refuse to let go of an idea, no matter where and when it strikes. Now you will understand how it can make demons out of creative heads who bear up with much bigger tragedies, but will scream when they discover they have run out of toilet paper.

I would hesitate to call myself talented, but these thoughts too, have been inspired from the comfort of a toilet seat and these bits of information have been submitted on a roll of toilet paper as well. Sometimes it becomes difficult to simply flush these ideas down the drain!
