PROFILE OF THE MONTH: SANDESH R GAUNDALKAR
SANDY SOUL
This month we capture the mind of a Visualiser from Goa, India, and peep into his canvas, while he paints his life in words.

Sandesh R. Gaundalkar
Sr. Visualiser/Graphic Designer

My job profile:
Visualizing and designing basic concepts for web sites, multimedia CD presentations besides a host of other promotional media.

My favourite color:
Blue. But as an artist I would choose White, because of it resolves itself with any colour

and reflects the character of every shade.

My favourite holiday destination:
Till now my native place – Goa. I like going there on holidays, whenever I get the chance – just to chill out and have a great time!

My idea of spending free time:
Listening to music, scribbling on paper, net-surfing which includes online chatting, dreaming and most important watching love-birds.

My favourite websites:
www.coolhomepages.com – it is like a stock library that boasts of a number of web sites, where I can find different possibility to present my thought on media. It inspires and is a source of my creativity sometimes as it doubles-up as a guide, frankly speaking.

www.flashkit.com, www.total3d.com – these are sites I look up to and I would put them in my guru-list, because I can download tutorials and learn in my free time.

My favourite cartoon characters:
Donald Duck, Tintin and Jerry (of Tom & Jerry)

My favourite artists and people who inspire me:
I don’t go by any favourite artist as such. There are many individuals I like because they are unique. Some of them worth a mention are Prof P. Dhond, John Fernandes, Dalal, Raza, M.F.Hussain and others like them. As far as influence is concerned, I learn a little from everyone, that includes my surroundings and nature itself. The world around me triggers my creativity and gives me the spirit to do something unique, to help create my own identity.

We should use things that influence us to invoke a thought and start a process, rather than simply block our minds and the ideas we believe in. I believe that if you are totally influenced by others, then you no longer reflect your own identity. I prefer to collect a number of things that influence my mind and then reflect on it and adapt them according to my imagination.

My type of music:
Indian classical and fusion. English & Hindi Pop where I keep up with the current chart-toppers. Besides, I am inclined to Indian Spiritual, these days.

Some useful tips:

Journey is not to reach a destiny. Everyone knows they will accomplish. Travel is to enjoy every movement. Success is not where you end up, so enjoy the journey.

My ambitions for the future:

The fascination for drawing in my childhood helped me choose art for a career. I developed my skills to become a professional so that I could benefit and fulfill my ambitions in the field of commercial art. There are stages you go through as a professional artist and I wish to climb up to the highest peak in the creative field.

My artistic roots, however, lie in my drawings and I paint whenever I have time to spare. It is rightly said that an artist is a mirror of society which reflects their surroundings they leave in. I love my profession and wish to live an artist and be remembered as one too. I hope to leave my identity on different canvases, which will speak for me, long after I’m gone. So at present, I am working towards it.

My message to the art community:
Whatever happened in past is over. Think of the future and how you can shape it. Keep dreaming...!
