PROFILE OF THE MONTH: PRASAD JAIKRISHNA KENKRE
Eye Catching!
This month we feature a graphic designer, based in Mumbai, who dabbles with imagery, as he gives his designs that extensive look.

Prasad Jaikrishna Kenkre
Graphic Designer
‘ The Times Journal Of Photography’
Mumbai, India.

My job profile:
I work as a Graphic Designer for ‘The Times Journal Of Photography’ a monthly photography magazine from ‘The Times Of India’. My job profile involves designing the look of the magazine &

coordinating with the colour production department for pre-presswork

of the magazine. It also involves designing various other promotional material for the magazine.

My favourite color:
Black. It is sensual, mysterious and as the cliché goes, ‘Black is beautiful’.

My favourite holiday destination:
My favourite holiday destination is my hometown Goa, though I would love to visit a number of other places like Mauritius, Maldives, Darjeeling, Ooty & Switzerland.

My idea of spending free time:
I read a lot. Reading helps me widen my horizons. I pick up anything that interests me, mostly books on design & advertising. I also love listening to music. It has a therapeutic effect on me. I also enjoy doing photography.

My favourite websites:
www.agencyfaqs.com: Very interesting and informative website on the world of advertising and marketing. It helps me stay in touch with the happenings of the Ad world.
www.artyears.com: A pretty well designed and informative website on the happenings in the art world.
www.google.com A fast and convenient way of finding any information under the sun. (including the sun).

My favourite cartoon characters:
Tintin. Tom & Jerry. R.K. Laxman’s ‘Common Man’ is also a favourite.

My favourite artists and people who inspire me:
Leonardo da Vinci, Satyajit Ray, David Ogilvy, Alyque Padamsee, and Steve Waugh. (I admire Steve for his grit and determination to succeed. The excellent work he is doing for India's underprivileged children is also a mark of his selfless and committed character). Also my family members have had a strong influence on me and have imbibed certain values in me, which I will always cherish. I also draw inspiration from people of varied walks of life. They are ordinary people with extraordinary lives and there are lots of lessons about life that you can learn from them.

My favourite music:
I like Lucky Ali a lot. The Beatles, Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses, Def Leppard, Enrique Inglesias are some of my other favourites.

Some useful tips:

Time is a precious commodity. Learn to mange it efficiently. Never run after money. If you love what you do, money will follow you. Read and travel a lot. It helps widen your perspective of life.

My ambitions for the future:

I intend to own an advertising and design agency of my own. I also hope to dabble with making ad films and off beat movies.

My message to the art community:
Life is a school and learning a lifelong process, so keep learning. Somebody has rightly said, “Life is something that’s lived forward and understood backwards”. Believe in your own self. Everyone without exception has a hidden talent. The key is to find that and nurture it. You live only once, so enjoy life to the fullest.
