Bradford
Hardman, Job profile: |
My favourite color:
Black. (You can thank a lifetime of reading Batman comics for that.)
My favourite holiday destination:
I can't stand sunshine and heat. So I guess I'd like some place
rainy and cool. Perhaps Ireland or England? My idea of spending free
time:
Relaxing with my wife, looking for jobs, playing online games with
friends, collecting action figures and reading comic books.
My favourite websites:
http://www.ign.com -- Up to date video game industry news, but some
of the info is members only.
http://www.comicscontinuum.com/ -- Daily comic book industry news.
http://www.theforce.net -- Daily Star Wars news.
http://www.gamasutra.com -- Game Developer Magazine's site, job
info and industry news.

My favourite cartoon character:
Snoopy (I'd say Batman, but I don't consider comic books to be "cartoons")
My favourite artists and people who inspire me:
Jerusha Hardman (My wife), Frank Miller, Jim Lee, Tim Burton, George
Lucas, Morrissey, Stan Winston, Jim Henson, David Fincher, Danny
Elfman, Charles Schulz, Gary Larson, Ian Fleming, Michael Crichton,
my parents, and many many more!
My type of music:
I'm big into the early 80's "new wave" music scene. I
listen to stuff like Duran Duran, The Smiths/Morrissey, U2, Garbage,
Cranberries, Harry Connick Jr., Sting, the Blues Brothers, Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart, and I'm probably the only guy in North America who
still listens to A-ha. (A-ha was best known for their video "Take
on me" in the early 80's their new stuff is really great!)
Some useful tips:
Keep learning new skills, practicing old ones, and always find time
to have fun, but not at the expense of meeting your deadlines.

My ambitions for the future:
I hope to get into a management position in a creative environment.
I made the mistake of accepting a job that paid a lot but had nothing
to do with creativity. Like many, I rode the roller coaster of an
internet start-up company from rise to fall. I had to lay off over
a hundred people over the course of four years. Those were dark
times! (Still are for many) I want to be in positive environment
with a team of like-minded individuals who have a passion for their
work.
My message to the art community:
Video games are becoming more and more like motion pictures. The
budgets are getting bigger and the profits are tremendous. The technology
has been growing by leaps and bounds. The games that have more to
offer in terms of innovation will be exciting to work with. The
Games Industry needs to figure out how to attract more non-gamers
into the mix. There is a larger market just waiting to be tapped
into! Games of the future will be like blockbuster movies that a
viewer gets to become part of, rather than just something for them
to watch.
