PROFILE OF THE MONTH: ADRIAN CANNATA
Progressive concepts
This month we focus on an Image Merchant from Australia, who expresses his thoughts as intensely as the work that he creates.

Adrian Cannata
Art Direction & Visual Merchandising,
Melbourne, Australia.

My job profile:
Art Direction, Graphic Design, Visual Merchandising & Guerilla Marketing. Basically, I make things look pretty.

My favourite color:
Black, although technically not a colour it's simply perfect and empowering.

My favourite holiday destination:
Palermo, Sicily. It's the jewel of the Mediterranean Sea. It's such a gorgeous, magical city filled with the most amazing design, architecture, culture, history and passionate people. Or I like anywhere on a beach with perpetual cold and rain, coupled with the elements of thunder, lightening and strong winds. It's so exciting to watch. I like the beach a lot - not to go in, just to look at.

My idea of spending free time:
I paint, take photos, view underground / indie cinema, frequent art galleries and festivals, listen to music, socialise, shop and enjoy life!

My favourite websites:
I love these web sites because they're just so cool and progressive!

My favourite cartoon characters:
Skeletor, Gray-Skull, She-Ra, Mr. Burns, Aeon Flux, Dexter and Astro Boy.

My favourite artists and people who inspire me:
The following have influenced me in some way. There's a lot here, but all worth the mention: Zaha Hadid, Marc Newson, Arne Jacobsen, Simon Doonan, Peter Saville, Marc Atlan, Kazuhiro Yamanaka, Andree Putman, Philippe Starck, Tadao Ando, Karim & Hani Rashid, Renzo Piano, Rhem Khoolass, Kennith Anger, John Waters, Andy Warhol, Gottfried Helnwein, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Gilbert & George, Vito Acconci, Gary Hume, Patric Heron, Martin Kippenberger, Mariko Mori, Dan Flavin, Joseph Beuys, Martin Creed, Man Ray, Larry Clark, Andres Serrano, Eikoh Hosoe, Helmut Newton, Nick Night, Raf Simons, Martin Margiela, Donatella Versace, Rei Kawakubo, Helmut Lang, Dirk Bikkembergs, Heide Slimane, John Galliano, Marc Jacobs, Alexandre Herchcvitch, Kostas Murkudis, Tom Ford, Yohji Yamamoto, Gaspard Yurkeviech, Valentino Garavani, Alexander McQueen, Issey Miyake, Thierry Mugler, Miuccia Prada, Vivienne Westwood, Jan Takahashi, Eiko Ishioka.

My type of music:

Here's my entire CD collection! This music definitely gets you thinking: Awoda, David Bowie, Bjork, Tori Amos, Sneaker Pimps, Sigor Ros, Alison Goldfrapp, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Manic Street Preachers, Kate Bush, Blondie, Grace Jones, Marilyn Manson, Velvet Underground, Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Joy Division, Pulp, Madonna, Nine Inch Nails, Morrissey, The Cure, Suede, Sonic Youth, James, Skunk Anansie, Placebo, Lou Reed, Missy Elliot, Philip Glass, The Smiths, Stone Roses, The Rapture, The Strokes, White Stripes, Dandy Warhols, Klaus Nomi, The Faint, Weezer, Garbage, The Datsuns, Tool, The Libertines, Jimi Hendrix, PJ Harvey, The New Pornographers, Trash Palace, Blur, Menswear, Vive Le Fete, Fischerspooner, Iggy Pop, The Sex Pistols, Andrew W.K., The Mars Volta, Chicks On Speed, Interpol, The Music and Mu.

Some useful tips:
Ignore what they teach you at University because they're in La La Land. You should be as alive, exciting and brilliant as the work you create and the aesthetic ideals you believe in.

My ambitions for the future:
The destruction of ersatz aesthetics, quick visual fixes and anorexic ideas. The opportunity to build upon and exhaust my creative capabilities through continuos and progressive collaboration with artists from various other cultures. Be at the helm of a multi-national cultural conglomerate devising and implementing creative strategies and outcomes.

My message to the art community:
In the ever so wise words of Marilyn Manson (who really does have a lot of good things to say if only people gave him a chance): Creating what we're hating is the only fear that's here.

Adrian Cannata keeps his ideals while he pursues his creative capabilities. You can share your thoughts with the energetic visualiser by sending him an email
